Clear allMignon trained in Utrecht under Jan Davidsz. de Heem, whose still lifes of flowers, fruit and costly tableware became the model for his own. Like de Heem, he set his arrangements against a dark ground, so that petals, fruit and polished metal catch the light, and he let insects and small animals move among the still objects. In Dutch still life, a watch was also a familiar reminder that time passes.
The paintings here fall into two groups. “Still Life with Flowers and a Watch” and “Still Life with Flowers and a Cat” are flower pieces. The others are fruit pieces, set out with shellfish, porcelain and goblets, one of them gold. Each is reproduced as a giclée print with pigment inks and made to order in Berlin, on matte 210 g/m² fine art paper or 400 g/m² cotton canvas, in sizes A4 to A0.
