Two kinds of picture meet in this collection. Natural-history plates were made for books that described and classified animals, so they show each species clearly and completely, often several to a page and labelled with its name. Artists’ studies were drawn for their own sake and tend to look more closely at a single animal, often a familiar one such as a cat.
Between them, the motifs range from wild species set out for identification to the animals people live with. Whatever its source, every motif is made to order in Berlin as a giclée print with pigment inks, on matte 210 g/m² fine art paper or 400 g/m² cotton canvas, in sizes A4 to A0.
