Johannes Vermeer

Johannes Vermeer (1632–1675) was a Dutch Golden Age painter from Delft, known for the way he painted light. The three paintings here are “Girl with a Pearl Earring”, “The Little Street” and “View of Delft”.

About Johannes Vermeer

Fewer than forty paintings are attributed to Vermeer, and he spent his whole life in Delft, which appears in two of the works here. “View of Delft” and “The Little Street” are his only known townscapes: the first shows the city across the water under a wide sky, the second the brick front of a house, with women at work in its doorway and passage.

“Girl with a Pearl Earring” is not a commissioned portrait but a tronie, a Dutch type of picture showing a head in costume or with a particular expression. The paintings are reproduced as giclée prints with pigment inks and made to order in Berlin, on matte 210 g/m² fine art paper or 400 g/m² cotton canvas, in sizes A4 to A0.
