About Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo filled notebooks with drawings and notes, often in mirror writing, and he dissected human bodies. The “Vitruvian Man” sets a male figure inside a circle and a square to illustrate the proportions described by the Roman architect Vitruvius. The foetus studies, now in the Royal Collection, combine drawing and written observation on one sheet.

The “Mona Lisa”, the portrait of Lisa Gherardini in the Louvre, is the one painting. The red-chalk head of an old man kept in Turin has often been read as a self-portrait, though this is not certain. Leonardo’s drawings and his painting are made to order in Berlin as giclée prints with pigment inks, on matte 210 g/m² fine art paper or 400 g/m² cotton canvas, in sizes A4 to A0.
