Piet Mondrian (1872–1944) was a Dutch painter and co-founder of De Stijl. The collection follows him from an early chrysanthemum, windmills, the river Gein and the church at Domburg, through “The Red Tree” and the dunes, to “Pier and Ocean” and the compositions in red, yellow, blue and black.

Clear allMondrian began in the Dutch landscape tradition, painting rivers, farms and mills around Amsterdam. From about 1908, on stays at Domburg in Zeeland, his colour grew hotter and his forms simpler; in Paris, shortly before the First World War, he took up Cubism and reduced the motif to horizontals and verticals.
The Gein with moored boats, the farm near Duivendrecht and the Oostzijdse mill by moonlight belong to the early, tonal phase. “The Red Tree”, the windmill in sunlight and the church and dunes at Domburg show the turn to strong colour. In “Pier and Ocean” the sea becomes short plus and minus strokes; the later compositions settle on black lines, white planes and primary colours. Made to order in Berlin, each painting is reproduced as a giclée print with pigment inks on matte 210 g/m² fine art paper or 400 g/m² cotton canvas, A4 to A0.
