Art Jungle

Postcards

The Postcards collection is a large set of small-format motifs in postcard style, in bold colour. It runs from abstract faces, profiles and geometric portraits to floral motifs and still lifes, and also takes in Vienna café scenes, variety acts and “Schönbrunn am Sonntag”.

About Postcards

Two strands run through this collection. One is a group of Wiener Werkstätte postcards by Moriz Jung, the format that gives the collection its name: a night-time conversation, “Das Wunderkind”, “Hindernis Regenbogen”, a Christmas card and two scenes from a Viennese café. The other, larger strand consists of graphic motifs in flat, saturated colour.

In that second group, faces and profiles predominate: a man with a moustache against blue, a green profile on yellow, a blue face, a geometric portrait and a fashion silhouette. Floral pieces such as orange blooms in a white vase, a red botanical form and cut-out still lifes sit beside purely geometric compositions in red, yellow, blue and black. Though conceived as small-format motifs, all are reproduced as giclée prints with pigment inks, made to order in Berlin on matte 210 g/m² fine art paper or 400 g/m² cotton canvas, in sizes A4 to A0.
