Clear allJones was an architect who had studied the Alhambra in Granada and decorated the interior of the Crystal Palace for the Great Exhibition of 1851. His book sets out the ornament of many cultures in a hundred chromolithographed plates, opened by thirty-seven propositions on form and colour, and ends with leaves and flowers drawn from nature, the source from which he held that ornament should grow.
Two of those nature plates are here, one a sheet of horse chestnut leaves, alongside a black-and-white drawing of leaf veins and a medieval pattern in crimson and sage green. All four are reproduced as giclée prints with pigment inks, made to order in Berlin on matte 210 g/m² fine art paper or 400 g/m² cotton canvas, A4 to A0.
