About this print

The original plate for Charles d'Orbigny's “Dictionnaire universel d'histoire naturelle” details the male bird's iridescent neck. The French natural-history encyclopaedia included the peacock alongside arachnids, insects and botanical plates when it was published in Paris between 1841 and 1849.
