About this print

Charles d'Orbigny included the plate in his “Dictionnaire universel d'histoire naturelle”, published in Paris between 1841 and 1849. Fine engraved linework defines the insects' bodies, while hand-applied pigments distinguish the individual specimens. The layout places the full beetles directly next to the isolated structural details.
