About this print

Captain Thomas Brown drew the composition, which Robert Scott translated into a copperplate engraving. The plate arranges herons, gulls, and other species in their habitats, with each bird numbered for identification. Engraved lines capture the shading and feather textures of the animals, documenting nineteenth-century avian diversity.
