About this print

Geometric patterns and rich pigments detail the scales and fins of the stylised East Indies specimens. The vertical layout pairs the partly fantastical creatures with handwritten notes. Renard published the engraving in Amsterdam in 1719 as part of one of the earliest colour books on fish.
