About this print

Hand-applied colour washes over a copperplate line engraving bring clarity to the leaf veins and individual petals. The composition expands on the main botanical specimen by detailing the anatomy of specific plant parts. John Stephenson and James Morss Churchill published the plate in the 1831 edition of their guide to medicinal plants.
