About Theo van Hoytema

Van Hoytema worked in The Hague and drew his lithographs directly on the stone himself, so line, texture and flat colour all come from his own hand. His picture books include “Het leelijke jonge eendje”, his version of Andersen’s Ugly Duckling, and “Uilengeluk”, a story of owls; for many years he also designed an annual calendar.

Birds dominate, often in groups: two owls and a peacock among ivy, egrets under a weeping willow, geese among reeds, storks among daisies. Single studies show a heron in flight, a crow, a seagull on a rock and a white peacock. Farmyard roosters and hens and a mother duck with her ducklings in tall grass round off the collection. Each work is made to order in Berlin as a giclée print with pigment inks, on matte 210 g/m² fine art paper or 400 g/m² cotton canvas, A4 to A0.
