About this print

Theo van Hoytema uses monochrome lithographic shading to detail the feather patterns and posture of the birds. Fine tonal contrasts build depth across the composition, highlighting the upward tilt of their heads. The Dutch artist frequently produced such animal illustrations for his picture books and calendars.
