About this print
Katsushika Hokusai titled the ukiyo-e woodcut “Fujiwara no Sadaie” in reference to the poet. Crisp contour lines and colour gradients define the turbulent water and the figures observing the scene from the shore. The composition highlights the contrast between the ocean, the sea foam and the warm tones of the rocks.
