About this print

The plate appeared in “Poissons, écrevisses et crabes”, a 1719 book documenting the aquatic life of the East Indies. Four distinct species display ornate body forms and decorative patterns, reflecting the partly fantastical approach of the volume. Handwritten notes identify each specimen alongside the figures.
