About this print

The plate appeared in “Poissons, écrevisses et crabes”, published in Amsterdam in 1719 as one of the earliest colour books on fish. Renard documented the East Indies specimens with distinct linework and fantastical patterns. Historical notes in copperplate handwriting surround the three creatures.
