The tall central stalk is surrounded by green foliage, showing speckled detailing along the stems. Pierre-Joseph Redouté, botanical painter to Marie-Antoinette and the Empress Joséphine, originally captured the tones of the blossoms through fine stipple engraving and a watercolour wash.
